According to preliminary estimates, new oil transshipment terminal of Liepaja port will start operation in 2007. Estimated capacity of the terminal will be 0.5 million tons, Guntars Krievinysh, manager of Liepaya’s FEZ reports according to RZD-Partner. Specific feature of the terminal is the possibility of quick transition from one type of oil products to another ones. Besides, new terminal is to be used for both large and small consignments of cargo. According to Krievinysh, other terminals are planned to be built in Liepaja port in future, though it is too early to specify their specialization. In 2007 it is also planned to carry out works on deepening of the water area in the port to enable it accept 60,000-dwt vessels.
