In January-March, 2007, throughput of Big Port of St. Petersburg grew by 6%, year-on-year, to 13.438 million tonnes, Administration of Big Port of St. Petersburg reports. In the reported period, transshipment of dry bulk totaled 2.145 million tonnes (+12%, year-on-year) including 388,200 tonnes of ore (up 2.2 times, year-on-year), 365,600 tonnes of coal and coke (-30%), 1.380.2 million tonnes of mineral fertilizers (+13%). Transshipment of loose dry cargo fell by 25% to 93,200 tonnes.
In the first quarter of the current year, the port handled 467,500 tonnes of timber (-31%) and 3.270.3 million tonnes of general cargo (similar to the result of Q1 07) including 660,800 tonnes of ferrous metal (-33%), 337,500 tonnes of non-ferrous metal (-1%), 495,500 tonnes of crap metal (+1%). Transshipment of packaged cargo amounted to 190,400 tonnes (up 2.2 times, year-on-year). Transshipment of refrigerated cargo totaled 1.037.6 million tonnes (+9%), other general cargo - 548,600 tonnes (+33%). In the reported period, the port’s container throughput amounted to 455,037.0 TEUS (+17%). Transshipment of oil cargo totaled 2.900.0 million tonnes (+4%). In January-March 2008, the port handled 3,253 vessels.
Port of St. Petersburg is located on the islands in the mouth of the Neva-river, in the Neva Bay at the eastern side of the Gulf of Finland (Baltic Sea).
