S. Korea to pay for a part of expenses on geologic research at the shelf of western Kamchatka

The Government of South Korea is ready to carry a part of expenses on geologic research at the shelf of Western Kamchatka. This year it will allot 362mln USD for financing of geologic research abroad, first of all for development of the Western-Kamchatka shelf together with "Rosneft," RIA Sever DV reports with reference to the newspaper "Kommersant."

The Head of the department of oil of the Ministry of trade, industry and power systems of South Korea Songu LEE announced that the Government of the country will allot means to its oil-gas companies for assistance in realization of their projects abroad.

The companies will receive 378mlb USD, 4% of which will be spent on exploring of the continental shelf of Korea. The main amount, 362mln USD, the companies can spend in 2008 on financing of foreign projects.

The Korean companies have 40% in the project of development of the Western-Kamchatka shelf jointly with "Rosneft" (60%). The Korean company "KNOC" undertakes geologic risks, financing exploring completely to commercial discovery, in spite of technical difficulties, with the lack of local infrastructure, including ports, for providing drilling activity, remoteness of bases of support and unsolved legislative issues.
