Baltiysky Zavod OJSC completes production of the first screw for Genesis

Baltiysky Zavod OJSC has completed the production of the first screw for the world’s largest vessel Genesis. The vessel is being built by Aker Yards at its shipyard in Finland. Baltiysky Zavod is manufacture 2 screws with the diameter of 6 meters each. The contract for production of screws for cruise vessels Genesis, Super Star Libra, Celebrity and Hall being built in Finland were signed by Baltiysky Zavod (St. Petersburg) and Zvezdochka (Severodvinsk) in 2007.

Baltiysky Zavod is the only manufacturer of large screws in Russia (with weight of up to 70 tonnes and diameter of up to 8 meters) from bronze and brass. The company produces screws for all types of vessels.

Genesis is the largest cruise vessel in the world. With its length of 360 m and width of 47 m, it comes close

to the largest vessels ever built. The passenger capacity will be 6,000. This huge vessel will be 40 per cent larger than any cruise vessel in the world. The vessel valued at $1.1 billion is to be completed in autumn 2009. It will be operated by Royal Caribbean International (USA).
