Hanjin Shipping and American President Line have announced that they are to launch of a new HMX (Ho Chi Minh Express) service beginning May, 2008.Each of the two liners will deploy a 700teu vessel on the feeder service that connects Ho Chi Minh, Kaohsiung and Singapore. Hanjin Shipping hopes that the establishment of its own dedicated feeder service on the route would avoid the twin problems of frequent delays and higher feederages currently experienced when transporting cargo between Vietnam and the U.S. and Europe – which are particularly a problem during the peak seasons. The new service is also expected to bypass congestion concerns by providing stable vessel space for Hanjin and APL customers using the trade.
The HMX Service will follow the port rotation: Singapore - Ho Chi Minh (Cat Lai) – Kaohsiung – Ho Chi Minh (VICT) – Singapore.
