Qatar and Port of Rotterdam start a strategic co-operation

Qatar Petroleum, the world largest LNG-producer, and Port of Rotterdam, Europe’s main energy port, will start up a long term strategic co-operation. This is announced during the visit of H.H. Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jabr Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar to The Netherlands.
Qatar Petroleum has the intention to further develop the Port of Ras Laffan according to the highest international standards. Qatar Petroleum is the owner of the Port of Ras Laffan, a port location in the State of Qatar.
With this co-operation, set down in a Memorandum of Understanding, Port of Rotterdam and Qatar Petroleum will among others exchange information and experiences in the area of port related facilities worldwide.
Hans Smits, President & CEO of the Port of Rotterdam explains “With this co-operation Port of Rotterdam wants to strengthen its position as Europe’s main energy port, especially in the supply chain for LNG and associated hydrocarbon products.”
Port of Rotterdam is willing to share its expertise in the field of port management, port development and other fields related to the core business following from its landlord role, with Qatar Petroleum and thereby aiming at optimal efficiency and port operations and services according to world class standards.
