Malaysian shipping line MISC will be the third line to use the Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) as its hub in the region.
MISC and PTP have agreed to form a joint-venture company with MISC holding a controlling 70 per cent stake.
Two major lines, Maersk and Evergreen, have already made PTP their regional hub. With MISC, PTP's connectivity will be boosted by 20 per cent.
PTP, ranked 17th in the world, reinforced its position as Malaysia's leading container port in 2007 when it recorded a 14 per cent growth to 5.5 million TEUs last year.
With a terminal handling capacity of eight million TEUs, PTP can accommodate the new volumes by MISC and other shipping lines.
