St.Petersburg Gov: freight transport to be removed from the city

Freight transportation will not be excepted in the city in the nearest future, St. Petersburg Governor Valentina Matvienko said today stated today at a meeting focused on the development of the city’s transport infrastructure, the governor press office reports. According to the regional Gov. the construction of facilities for redirecting freight transport traffic has being completed.

Valentina Matvienko also said that within 2-3 years the city projected creation of a single high-speed transportation corridor to link the Vyborg district from Vasilevsky Island. According to the plan there will be a one-way traffic on a number of streets. The project provides for construction of transport interchanges, tunnels and underground passages. Once the proposal is approved, we will begin design and construction, Velentina Matvienko said.

She noted the promising directions, including transport hub on the Primorskoye Highway, construction of the Orlovsky tunnel, an interchange on the Bypass Canal embankments and more.
