"We see that today the prices have grown on the grain market - the prices are growing both in the world and within the country. We see that the market is waiting. If someone is waiting for 21 or 31 December of this year, this is in vain, because our decision to lift the export ban will be based only on the results of this year’s harvest campaign ", the government’s press office quoted Prime Minister as saying.
Mr. Putin also said that the corn crop in 2010 will be "65, or maybe even 60 million tons.”
"Even if we take the modest scenario - 60 million tons. We have 9.5 million tons in reserve, in the intervention fund, and plus 21 million tons – the last year’s remainder. That is, we have total 90 million tons, and we need for domestic consumption 78. But the question is, what the country will have for the next, 2011? We do not know what the crop we will get, and what the 2011’s carryover we will have. I repeat, this year it is 21 million, and it is quite a good carryover," the prime minister said.
Earlier reports said that the Russian Government had imposed a ban on the export of grain and other agri-products effective from August 5 until December 31, this year. The interim ban was set for exports from Russia of wheat and maslin, barley, rye, corn, wheat or rye flour.
