Australia Newcastle coal exports up 6.4 percent last week

Coal exports at Australia's Newcastle port, the world's largest coal export terminal, rose 6.4 percent in the latest week, as a drier weather allowed miners to increase output and push out shipments, port data showed on Wednesday.
Exports from the eastern coast port, which ships mostly thermal coal used in power plants, rose from a week ago to 2.19 million tonnes in the week to Aug. 9, Newcastle Port said on its website.
The queue of vessels edged up to 14, compared with 11 a week earlier, while 56 ships were traveling to the port to load coal, the port said.
Waiting time stood at 14.88 days, up from 14.5 days in the preceding week.
