Seventeen firms secure box handling deals at Indonesian port

At least 17 handling companies have secured long-term partnership contracts with state port operator II (Pelindo II), reported Bisnis Indonesia.

President director of Pelindo II Richard Jose Lino revealed the handling companies would secure long-term contracts of 10 to 15 years.

"The long-term contracts are expected to motivate the handling companies to make investments in handling activity supporting equipment at the port," he told Bisnis.

He said the 15-year contracts would ensure that the handling companies would make long-term investments as Pelindo II ahead would only join hands with private companies willing to invest in equipment to bolster handling productivity.

Previously, Pelindo II selected 60 handling companies to become operational partners in running handling activities at the conventional terminal at Tanjung Priok port.

Pelindo II required every handling company to have an annual throughput of 750,000 tonnes over the past five years and have at least five years experience in running handling activities.
