Maersk Line to resume new vessel acquisition

Following a two-year break, Maersk has commenced negotiations with Chinese and Korean shipyards for ten 16,000TEU boxships, according to Asiasis Daily News. Maersk’s return to the market follows huge boxship newbuild orders from Evergreen, Neptune Orient Lines and, in early August, Seaspan.
Asiasis says it is confident that Maersk is preparing to regain its lead among global boxship fleets, however the market has suffered from oversupply from 2007 to 2008.
