Severe flooding has ruptured the banks of the Yalu river and closed China’s northernmost port, Dandong. The port, three hours drive north of Dalian in Liaoning province, is expected to remain shut for the next 48 hours, as rain continues to batter this northeastern outpost that overlooks North Korea. Around 100,000 people have been evacuated from the area, the latest region to be hit by floods in this year of catastrophic rains for China.
