API Marine wins arctic tanker contract from MMC Norilsk Nickel

API Marine has secured a contract for delivery of Cargo Monitoring and Level Indication System for an ice-breaker tanker, that was ordered by MMC Norilsk Nickel - Russia's largest mining and metal producing company - at the German shipyard Nordic Yards.

"We are proud to announce commencement of a successful collaboration between API Marine and Nordic Yards", says Managing Director of API Marine, Sven Egelund Rasmussen.

The tanker will be able to break through ice thickness of 1.5 meter and will be transporting fuel, lubricants and gas condensate in the Far North territories of Russia. Designed to operate in harsh Arctic weather conditions, where temperature reaches down to -50°C, the vessel will carry API Marine technology onboard, which has already proven to work efficiently and reliably in the Arctic region.

The tanker will comply with two classification societies - Russian Maritime Register of Shipping and Det Norske Veritas and is scheduled for delivery in September 2011.
