The Gdansk seaport will now be able to compete with some of the largest ports in Europe for the custom clearance of large vessels, such as those originating from China, reported Dziennik Gazeta Prawna, Warsaw Business Journal reports. Up until now, the German port of Hamburg was regarded as more attractive by importers due to its more advanced infrastructure and efficient procedures.
Gdansk has expanded to accommodate larger cargo ships, and has implemented a more advanced computer system to service larger importers. Last year, the cargo turnover at the port of Gdansk increased by over 400 percent compared to 2008. This year, another record is expected.
