In January-November 2008, Vostochny Port handled 19.133.9 million tonnes of cargo (-5.4%, year-on-year), PortNews IAA learnt from Vostochny branch of RosMorPort FSUE. In the reported period, transshipment of dry cargo amounted to 18.884.4 million tonnes (-5.6%, year-on-year) including 15.362.2 million tonnes of loose and bulk dry cargo (-7.9%). Transshipment of coal amounted to 14.401.3 million tonnes (-8.4%), mineral fertilizers – 911,200 tonnes (-2.5%), timber – 81,300 tonnes (3.4 times down). In the 11-month period transshipment of general cargo totaled 205,700 tonnes (up 7.6 times) including 175,100 tonnes of scrap metal (up 8.4 times. The port’s container throughput amounted to 377,737 TEU (+10.8%). In January-November the port handled 249,500 tonnes of oil products (+8.2%).
Vostochny port is the deepest Far-Eastern port of Russia. It is located in the southern part of the Primorsky Krai on the shore of the Sea of Japan within 20 kilometers from Nakhodka – end point of Trans-Siberian Line. The port has year round navigation. The port is possible of handling vessels with a draft up to 15.5 meters, length up to 280 meters and breadth up to 40 meters. The port comprises 15 cargo berths, a number of auxiliary berths and a maintenance pier. Total length of the berthing line is about 4 kilometers. These berths are part of terminals used for transshipment of coal, containers, fertilizers, methanol, timber, bulk and general cargo.
