Odessa port eyes buying ice-class tug
State owned company Odessa Marine Trade Port mulls the purchase of an ice-class 5,000hp tugboat, the Ukraine Sea Ports Authority said citing the chief of fleet service of OMTP Sergei Sakhanenko.
Currently, the company operates a fleet of 8 ice-class tugs. Two tugboats are undergoing maintenance and are scheduled to enter service by the end of 2014.
In the last few years, the port of Odessa would deploy during the ice seasons four own tugs, plus boats chartered from other ports. Now the service fleet has five tugboats, which can be effectively utilized in ice pilotage and mooring operations. The fleet of "Granite", "Novator", "Udarnik", "Stevedore" has been expanded this year with seagoing tug "Moguchiy" (acquired from Yuzhny port).
