Landing craft of Project 21820 “Midshipman Lermontov” starts tests on high-speed transfer of military equipment by sea
Within the framework of the shipbuilder’s trials the crew of the landing craft of Project 21820 Midshipman Lermontov jointly with the sea soldiers of the Baltic Fleet has started tests on loading/unloading and high-speed transfer of military equipment by sea, press center of the Ministry of Defence says.
Besides, main propulsion plant is under trials.
Upon completion of the shipbuilder's / state acceptance trials, "Midshipman Lermontov" will enter service with the Russian Baltic Fleet.
Landing crafts of project 21820 feature unique characteristics. They are intended for high-speed transfer by sea and landing on an unequipped coast of human contingents, wheeled and tracked vehicles. High speed of the boat is ensured by the presence of the air cavity on the bottom, powerful diesel engines М507А-2D and ventilated water jet propellers.
The vessel’s full displacement is 280 t, length max — 45 m, width max — 8.5 m, draught — 1.9 m, maximum speed with waves of up to 0.75 m high — 35 knots, maximum range — 500 nautical miles, cargo hold dimensions — 27х6.8х2.34 m, maximum cargo capacity — 140 t.
