Cargo transportation by inland water ways of Russia down 8.8% to 122.3 mln t in Jan-Nov’14
In January-November 2014, inland water ways of Russia carried 122.3 mln t of cargo (-8.8%, year-on-year), IAA PortNews journalist cites Victor Vovk, deputy head of the Federal Marine and River Transport Agency (Rosmorrechflot) as saying at the joint meeting of the Board and the Public Council of Rosmorrechflot. According to him, passenger transportation by IWW declined by 1% to 12.8 mln passengers, cargo deliveries to the Northern territories increased by 1.2% to 17.9 mln t.
The decrease should be mainly attributed to low water level. For example, cargo flow via Gorodets locks No15-16 in navigation-2014 totaled 2.4 mln t (-29%, year-on-year).
