Last year Amsterdam gave a ceremonial send-off to the cruise vessel Celebrity Constellation. On May 3rd of this year Amsterdam had the honour to welcome Constellation’s big sister, the Celebrity Silhouette. Shipping company Celebrity Cruises sees much potential in the Northern European waters and has therefore decided to deploy a larger vessel in this market, the Port of Amsterdam said in a press release.
With its 314.8 meters in length and 36.9 meters in width, the Silhouette is 30 meters longer and 5 meters wider than the Constellation. During its voyage to Amsterdam, the Silhouette’s size was no problem for the sea locks in IJmuiden and neither was the trip on the North Sea Canal. The Silhouette can hold up to 3,463 passengers. That is 1,013 more passengers than its little sister can carry.
