Krylov State Research Center hosts discussion on import substitution in marine technology
On May 25, 2015, Krylov State Research Center hosted the panel discussion of the working group on propulsion systems organized under the auspices of the United Shipbuilding corporation, press center of KSRC sats. The participants of this panel were lead experts of various Russian shipyards and marine design offices.
Apart from sharing the opinions about ongoing projects, including the progress in indigenization of pod propulsion technology, this panel discussion was meant to make its participants familiar with the activities of the main design departments of the KSRC. The guests visited the facilities of Propulsion Division and saw itsdeep-water test tank and cavitation tunnels. They also had a quick look on the Ice Basin and the facilities of Structural Strength and Lifetime Division, including the test hall for large structures and the hydraulic pressure chambers.
Krylov State Research Center was set up in 1894 as Russia’s first model testing basin in the central part of St. Petersburg. It is a scientific research organization of the national shipbuilding sector focused on conceptual and workshop designs of naval ships, merchant vessels and offshore structures as well as on their operation and disposal.
