M/s Deutschland kicks off Turku's international cruise season on 8th June
Turku’s international cruise season 2016 kicks off 8th June with an early morning arrival in the port of Turku by m/s Deutschland. The vessel arrives from Stockholm and will continue to Helsinki the same evening as part of a two-week-cruise on the Baltic Sea. Deutschland is a classic cruise vessel, built in 1998, with a length of 175 m. She can accommodate max 520 passengers and 280 crew members. The guests are mainly from Germany, and during the call many will participate in various shore excursions such as a city bus tour with stops at Turku castle and cathedral as well as a tour to the nearby picturesque seaside town of Naantali.
Early this year m/s Deutschland was in dock for painting and upgrading and is now cruising northern Europe the whole summer with a new look. The vessel will call Turku again on 21 June.
Turku will welcome eight cruise vessels this season. Albatros and The World will call in June, Artania twice in July and National Geographic Orion twice in August.
Turku is well suited as a destination for medium and small size cruise vessels. There are five berths available for cruise vessels, one is a dedicated cruise berth located just next to the medieval Turku castle. The port is only 3 km from the city centre, hence those passengers who don’t participate in organized excursions can also easily explore the city and its sights on their own.
