Throughput of port Riga (Latvia) in 6M’18 climbed by 0.7% Y-o-Y to 1.67 million tonnes
In January-June 2018, the Freeport of Riga (Latvia) handled 17,629,900 tonnes of cargo (+0.7%, year-on-year). As IAA PortNews was informed by the port authority, transshipment of coal grew by 8.8% to 6,963,600 tonnes, oil products – down 35.2% to 2,117,800 tonnes, wood pellets – up 28.8% to 454,800 tonnes, ore – up 22.7% to 202,900 tonnes.
The Port’s container throughput grew by 8.4% to 225,633 TEUs.
In the reporting period, passenger turnover increased by 8.6% to 395,492 people including 28,040 cruise passengers (-19.5%).
Freeport of Riga lies on both banks of the River Daugava covering 6.3 hectares. The port’s berth length is 13,800 meters, maximum draft at the berths is 12.2 meters. Up to 80% of the Freeport of Riga cargo turnover is made up of transit cargoes forwarded to or received from the CIS countries. In 2017, the port handled 33,674,700 tonnes of cargo.
