Crab auctions result in a plan to build 31 crab catching ships, IAA PortNews correspondent cites Ilya Shestakov, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation - head of Rosrybolovstvo (Russian Federal Fisheries Agency), as saying a the meeting with journalists in Moscow.
According to him, 15 ships are to be built by Far East shipyards.
Initially, it was planned to have all crab catchers built by Far East shipyard but their capacity is not sufficient.
Meanwhile, Federal Antimonopoly Service of Russia is against such restrictions.
Russian designing company Nordic Engineering founded by Nordic Yards Holding GmbH (Germany) has designed a unique crab catching ship that can be built for just $10-12 million.
