With the approval obtained from the Agency for Architecture, City Planning and Long-Term Development of the Kaliningrad Region, a freight/passenger car ferry and a railway ferry facilities have been put into operation in Baltijsk, says press center of FSUE Rosmorport.
The project on reconstruction and construction of port infrastructure including the construction and operation of a container terminal with a capacity of 300,000 TEUs has been implemented from March 2017 under public private partnership involving Baltic Stevedoring Company, LLC.
FSUE Rosmorport, the project orderer, reconstructed the Berth No 2 and built 180-meter long crane tracks. FSUE Rosmorport invested over RUB 159 million of its own resources into the project.
Baltic Stevedoring Company, LLC is going to install a track-mounted Liebherr P131L-Super container crane of 45 tonnes in capacity intended for handling of sea containers.
This infrastructure project being implemented in Baltijsk, the port of Kaliningrad, is of high importance for transport and logistics development in the region: it contributes to building up cargo transshipment in the seaport and increase in the number of calls. The terminal will handle vessels of up to 160 meters in length, load draught of up to 8.5 meters and deadweight of up to 22,000 tonnes. It will become an important point of transit from Chine to Europe under the New Silk Road project.
