In 2007, total throughput of Russia’s southern ports amounted to 161.9 million tonnes (+1.3%, year-on-year), MORCENTER-TFC CJSC reports according to RZD-Partner. Transshipment of dry cargo grew by 7.3%, year-on-year, to 50.7 million tonnes while transshipment of liquid bulk cargo fell by 1.2% to 111.1 million tonnes. Transshipment of export grain surged by 36.1%, coal – by 12.2%, other dry cargo – by 6.6%. Handling of non-ferrous metal grew 1.6 times, packaged – 2.3 times, import sugar – by 11%, alumina – by 16.6%, other general cargo – 1.5 times. Transshipment of foreign trade cargo via the ports of Russia’s Southern Basin grew by 42.4%.
However, export transshipment of ferrous metal fell by 8%, timber – by 9.6%, mineral fertilizers – by 6.8%, ore – almost 2-fold, scrap metal – by 26.3%. As for import, transshipment of refrigerated cargo fell by 19.3%. Besides, transshipment of transit and coastal trade cargo decreased.
The share of dry cargo in total turnover of southern ports grew from 29.6% to 31.3%, mostly owing to Novorossiysk Ship-Repair Yard OJSC (5.5%); Novoroslesexport OJSC (15.2%); Nodal Transporting and Forwarding Company of Novorossiysk (NUTEP OJSC, 27.7%), Buzan-port LLC, Makhachkala Commercial Seaport FSUE (16.7%), Taganrog Commercial Seaport OJSC (19.5%).
