The first completed ESPO section, running from the zero station to the 238th kilometre was connected up to the operational system of pipelines of the Transneft Company at a point near the city of Taishet, Irkutsk Region, at 17:15 local time on Wednesday, an official at the ESPO Project Control Center (PCC) told Itar-Tass on Thursday.
The filling-up of the ESPO section with oil was started at the point where it joints the operational Omsk-Irkutsk and Krasnoyarsk-Irkutsk oil pipelines. The end point of the filling-up has been set to be at the center for the startup and reception of the means of purification and diagnostics, located in the area of the town of Vikhorevka, Irkutsk Region.
The construction of the ESPO was started on April 28, 2006. The first phase of the pipeline, running from Taishet to Skovorodino (Amur Region) is 2,694 km long.
According to Sergei Sergeyev, PCC General Director, as of now 1,895 km of pipes have been welded into a pipeline length that has been laid into trench and blanketed with earth for a distance of 1,535 km. The construction of all infrastructure facilities of the first phase of the trunkline is proceeding at a rapid pace. It is to be completed at the end of 2009 when the laying of the ESPO second phase from Skovorodino to the Pacific Ocean coast is to be started.
