Ports of Baltic states up cargo transshipment by 2% y-o-y, in Jan-Feb 08

In January-February 2007, the ports of the Baltic states increased cargo transshipment by 2%, year-on-year, to 23.288 million tonnes, Gudok.ru cites the central statistics department of Latvia with reference to Interfax. The ports of Latvia accounted for 47.7% of cargo, Estonian -  26.4%, Lithuanian – 25.9%. Throughput of Latvian ports grew by 21.5% - to 11.11 million tonnes, Lithuanian – by 28.4% to 6.028 million tonnes while that of Estonian ports fell by 31.5% to 6.149 million tonnes. The largest volumes were handled by the port of Ventspils – 5.427 million tonnes (+15.6%). Then comes the port of Tallinn – 5.077 million tonnes (-32.5%), the third one is the port of KlaipedaBaltic states amounted to 139.223 million tonnes with Latvian ports accounting for 44.8%, Estonian – for 32.2% and Lithuanian – 22.9%. – 4.971 million tonnes (+21.5%).
