In January-February, 2008, the volume of transit cargo handled by the ports of Finland totaled 1.12 million tonnes (+41.3%, year-on-year), Finnish Port Association informs. The volume of transit cargo exported by the ports amounted to 560,500 tonnes (+19.1%), import – to 561,870 tonnes (+73.6%).
The leader in terms of transit was the port of Kotka – 495,500 tonnes (+36.9%), the second on was the port of Hamina – 272,100 tonnes (24.8%), the third – Kokkola – 204,500 tonnes (+351.4%). In the reported period the portHanko handled 104,800 tonnes of transit cargo (-10%), Turku – 18,600 tonnes (+21.9%), Helsinki – 26,900 tonnes (-25.6%).
The ports of Hamina, Hanko, Kotka and Turku are the major ports to export foreign automobiles for Russia. According to the Finnish Ministry of Transport, transit flow of automobiles for Russia via the ports of Kotka, Hanko and Turku amounted to 719,000 units in 2007. of
