In January-March, 2008, LDZ Cargo (Latvian Railway) increased its loading by 18.6%, year-on-year, from 12.124 million tonnes to 14.374 million tonnes, the company reports. Loading of oil and oil products amounted to 5.759 million tonnes, coal – 4.304 million tonnes. Loading of mineral fertilizers fell by 23.7%, year-on-year, to 1.275 million tonnes due to the fact that transportation of potassium salt from byelorussia to the port of Ventspils was terminated. The core volume of major types of cargo (oil products, coal etc.) is ensured by the company’s partners in Russia, Byelorussia, Lithuania and Central Asia. Grain is being transported mainly from Kazakhstan, Russia, Lithuania and Ukraine. As for chemical cargo, it is delivered mainly from Russia, as well as from Estonia and Lithuania.
