Benelux ports boost Hupac Intermodal Transport

In 2007 the Swiss combined transport operator Hupac carried a total of 689,904 road consignments by rail. This is an increase of 12.6% over the previous year.
The highest rate of growth was seen in non-transalpine combined transport with an increase of 21.9% compared with 2006. The volume increased from 154,491 tot 188,272 units. This segment is being affected by the strong growth of traffic in the western ports of Rotterdam, Antwerp and Zeebrugge. Transalpine combined transport grew by 10.1%.(436,678 to 480,941 units).
Hupac expects double-digit traffic growth for 2008. The strategic targets are the substantial development of transalpine transport and the selective setup of connections on non-transalpine corridors such as Benelux-Poland-Russia and Benelux-Southeast Europe.
