Gazpromneft Shipping to start LNG bunkering operations in Russia’s Baltic Basin in 2017
Gazpromneft Shipping is going to hold its first LNG bunkering operation in Russia’s Baltic Basin in 2017, the Company representative Vasily Tkachenko said at the International Conference “Advanced port fleet - the basis of safety” organized by media-group PortNews and held in Saint-Petersburg on September 21, 2015.
According to him, one bunkering tanker will be used in the beginning. Later on, the number of tankers can be increased.
The Company forecasts the increase in the number of gas powered ships from current 63 ships to 140 ships by 2017 and to 3,700 ships by 2030. Annual demand for LNG as bunker fuel is expected to grow from 600,000 t in 2015 to 16 mln t by 2030.
As of today, there are several projects on construction of LNG terminals in the Baltic Basin – Baltic LNG, Vyborg based terminal and LNG Gorskaya.
