Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. has announced the launch of its biannual safety campaign to begin on April 15, targeting all MOL group-operated vessels.
MOL views safe operation as a social commitment and gives it the highest priority in all of its business activities, helping the company to forge ahead and become the world leader in safe operation. As part of these efforts, President & CEO Ikeda, executives, and other personnel will conduct an extensive series of visits to MOL-operated vessels in Japan and overseas. During the visits, they will meet with seafarers who are responsible for safe operation on the front line and exchange information and opinions about safety-related ways to prevent incidents.
Proposals and ideas gained through this campaign, which is held twice a year with a different theme, will be shared throughout the MOL Group and among group-operated vessels to further enhance the group's safe-operation structure.
Outline of Campaign
Campaign period: Friday, April 15 to Friday, September 30, 2016
Main theme
Introduce the importance of "returning to basics" by focusing on background factors such as "inappropriate skipping of work procedures" and "carelessness due to overconfidence" in a study of an incident that actually occurred on a vessel. This will be followed by discussions about similar near-misses and preventive measures for such incidents. In addition, the campaign aims to develop a solid, united safety culture among all MOL Group employees at sea and on land.
Target vessels
MOL-operated vessels (dry bulkers, tankers, LNG carriers, car carriers, containerships) and MOL Group company-operated vessels (ferries, cruise ships, etc.)
