Wind turbine installation vessel MPI Adventure has installed 72 SWT-4.0-130 offshore wind turbines on the Sandbank offshore wind farm. The work was completed three months ahead of schedule, with MPI Adventure erecting six of these complete offshore wind turbines per cycle.
After initially assisting with commissioning of the offshore substation, MPI Adventure installed the very first turbine on 28 July 2016. Less than six months later, the final turbine was installed on 21 January 2017. This impressive installation rate can be largely attributed to the vessel’s excellent performance, backed up by the efficient project management and engineering services offered by MPI throughout the contract duration.
MPI was also responsible for the design, engineering and manufacturing of the sea fastenings used during transportation and installation of all Siemens turbines on the Sandbank offshore wind farm.
Vattenfall, the majority owner and developer of the wind farm, has complimented MPI on all the company’s efforts and contribution to achieving such a fantastic turbine installation rate.
The Sandbank offshore wind farm is located approximately 90km west of the island of Sylt in the German Bight. When fully commissioned later this year, the wind farm will be able to generate green electricity for more than 400,000 households.
MPI Adventure is a state-of-the-art offshore installation vessel. Designed to transport, lift, install and decommission components such as foundations, wind turbines, met masts and transformer stations, she is one of the world’s most proven installation vessels in terms of jacking speed, deck space, lifting capacity, accommodation facilities and positioning capabilities (DP2).
